NepMed to Launch Training Program

NepMed International Pvt. Ltd. organized a seminar today to disseminate information on Medical Transcription (MT) as a career choice and its growth potential in the IT industry in Nepal. The seminar was attended by aspiring candidates as well as different personalities who are involved in the field of health care documentation.

The “MT boom” that started in Nepal a few years ago is today flourishing, offering this new job opportunities to thousands.

In the US, the entire healthcare industry is based on insurance. Therefore, detailed medicalrecords are needed for processing insurance claims. As a result, MTs are in high demand there, and the cost of getting the job done is also very high. Countries like Nepal are a very good locale for outsourcing this work due to the availability of a large mass of English-speaking and computer-literate youth, 12-hour time difference and the drastically lower cost of operation.

According to the American Association for Medical Transcription (AAMT), medical transcription is a $15-17 billion industry with a double-digit growth rate. MT companies in the US are slow to grow in size, constrained by labor shortages and expertise, and hence they are increasingly outsourcing the work overseas.

A similar situation of acute shortage of trained manpower exists in the MT industry in Nepal, though more than two dozen MT companies are active in Kathmandu and Biratnagar, employing an estimated one thousand employees. Four-year old NepMed International plans to change that by helping educate the Nepalese youth about the lucrative white-collar nature of this job. NepMed also plans to spearhead the campaign of spreading the message about the tremendous economic potential of the MT sector to the business community.

NepMed is now launching its Medical Language Specialist training with the aim of producing skilled and qualified workforce for employment in its Kathmandu production center.

NepMed’s vision, client focus, and commitment to operational excellence have made it the leading provider of fully diversified medical transcription and back-office solutions for health care facilities across the US. Through a mix of brand building and strong employee relations, NepMed attracts and retains a quality workforce, adding value to its delivery of MT and back-office services. Building a business based upon internet technologies, NepMed has positioned itself in the forefront of a rapidly expanding international market.

At a function today, Gyanendra Tuladhar, Chairman of NepMed shed light on the potential of the MT industry to contribute to the economic prosperity of Nepal by employing thousands of youth in a sector which requires little capital investment but yields high foreign currency returns. He further highlighted the company’s philosophy of delivering quality service to clients, work ethics and employee-enabled growth. He said, We are here not to produce MTs but to generate future editors, supervisors, managers and potential MT business owners.”
